Educational Consultation

As a special needs educational consultant, Dr. Migden works with students who have a wide variety of problems, including learning disabilities, ADHD, substance abuse, or emotional/behavioral problems.  He serves students of all ages, helping them find the educational or therapeutic setting that can best meet their unique needs.

With Dr. Migden, educational consultation is a dynamic, interactive process that focuses on the student and his or her special needs.  The goal is to find the educational or therapeutic setting that can best help the student achieve full potential, both academic and social/emotional.

As an educational consultant, Dr. Migden’s primary obligation is to accurately represent each student, based on a careful review of the student’s and family’s circumstances.  Dr. Migden does not solicit nor does he accept compensation from any school, college or therapeutic program for the placement of a student.

Dr. Migden has considerable experience with a wide range of students and their problems. He has had professional and supervisory positions in: a psychiatric day treatment center for children and adolescents; a hospital-based learning disabilities assessment program; two university-based doctoral and post-doctoral psychology training clinics; and a psychiatric residential treatment center for adolescents. He has served on a variety of professional committees, including those dealing with learning disabilities, psychoeducational assessment, and adolescent substance abuse. He has been involved in the placement of well over 1,000 students.

Because of his extensive experience with individuals of all ages and his wide-ranging knowledge of placement options, Dr. Migden can help you with many types of educational and therapeutic placements, including:

  • Independent Day Schools for Students with Learning Disabilities or Emotional-Behavioral Problems
  • Boarding Schools
  • Learning Disabilities Schools and Programs
  • Residential Treatment Programs, Hospitals and Special Schools
  • Intensive Psychiatric Treatment Programs
  • Intensive Substance Abuse Treatment Programs
  • Intensive Programs for Sexually Inappropriate Youth
  • Colleges for Students with Special Needs, including LD, ADHD, and Psychiatric Problems

Dr. Migden travels extensively, making many first-hand visits to schools, colleges and special programs, both locally and nationally. He has personally visited more than 150 educational and therapeutic institutions throughout the country, including those located in New York, New England, the Mid Atlantic, the South, the Mid West, the West, and Hawaii. In these visits, Dr. Migden meets with students, teachers, administrators and clinicians, and he gains personal knowledge of each setting. His site visit reports and essays are highly valued by both parents and professionals—a number of them have appeared in Places for Struggling Teens and Resources NOW, both well-known resource directories for parents and professionals. Of course, even the highest quality educational consultation cannot guarantee either admission or success in a particular setting.
